Can someone explain to me what headcanon is? I've been seeing it all over tumblr, and I have an assumption of what it means, but I'm not sure. Is it like when you have an idea about how something in the HP universe happened in your head, but it isn't actually supported by canon? Or something?

I'm pretty sure Headcanon is like canon, like say somthing is suggested but not really clarified in the series, say a romantic interest,*cough* Draco and Harry break up with their wives and marry after 19 years later *cough* it's mainly for you to imagine about for yourself. Maybe that isn't the best example,

A headcanon is something that you believe to be true but hasn't been confirmed by canon.

According to Urban Dictionary, a headcanon is :
"(also written as "head canon" but it's really one word.) An idea, belief, or aspect of a story that is not mentioned in the media itself, but is accepted by either the reader themselves or the fandom in general. If it is confirmed by the author of the story, it becomes canon."
