Am I the only one that ships Dumbledore/Grindelwald like, hardcore?
I just think it explains so much about Dumbledore's personality and about how he managed to succeed in winning the Elder Wand.
Points to note:
1. Rowling outed Dumbledore as gay in this interview - she states that he fell in love with Grindelwald.
2. It does not state whether the feelings were reciprocated...
3. Maybe Dumbledore just had a total crush on him and was infatuated. However, I think with how intelligent Grindelwald is known to have been, he would have figured something out.
4. It is unlikely that (in that time) Grindelwald would have accepted Dumbledore's crush on him lightly. With how obsessed he was with The Greater Good, and holding similar ideals to Hitler's plan for an Aryan population, something as "disgusting" as homosexuality would have meant he would dismiss Albus instantly, no matter his greatness.
5. The only option is that either he was really accepting or felt, even just the slightest bit, the same towards Albus.
6. When they duelled and Grindewald was sent to his prison, I believe the only way Albus could have won was if Grindelwald had (at least partially) let him win. Dumbledore was a great wizard, but so was Grindelwald...
7. My headcanon is that Grindelwald regretted his actions towards Albus - either he was upset that he never got to tell him that he returned his feelings, or that he was angry with himself for ruining their relationship - so he let Albus win.
That's all I can think of for now, but I'm sure there's more! If I have gotten any of the details wrong, feel free to tell me. I'm hoping to start some sort of interesting discussion!
