Do you have any preferences, and what are your big no-nos? (No bashing please!)

I personally can't stand mpreg. Even though they live in a magical world and I can understand that these kind of things could happen, it just freaks me out a bit.
In general, I really love fake-dating or fake marriage fics, and when it comes to Drarry, I quite like post-epilogue or when things are rewritten from about sixth year? Maybe also from Deathly Hallows. Also I quite like the bonding type fics, where they're forced to stay close because of a marriage spell gone wrong or something along those lines.
As long as Draco and Harry both stay fairly in character I'm pretty happy with most fics though. If it's Drarry, I'm sold.

I generally dislike Mpreg as well. But my BIGGEST pet-peeve is just when they're out of character. Like unless you give me a very, very good reason to believe that Draco has suddenly become a hopeless romantic who wants nothing more than to please Harry and have all his babies, or a very, very good reason to make Harry a whiny, clinging, cry-baby, I'm not going to like it. I also generally dislike creature fics. Just not into it.
I love forced-bonding fics. I have had a huge love-affair with epilogue compliant fics as of late. School age fics are okay if it's 6th or 7th year (or 8th year!). I dunno, I love a lot of other types of fics too. I think I'm similar to pigfartsstudent - as long as they're in character I'll read most things!

I have difficulties with mpreg too, although I've read some good ones when I was really involved in the supernatural fandom. I don't really know where I stand about bonding fics, I like when the boys are forced to be in each other's company but I prefer when things happen naturally between Harry and Draco instead of forced because of some magical bond. I like angsty stuff, I've read some really dark fics that made me really sad, and the kinkfest livejournal is one of my favourite fanfic resource now I like post HBP fics, Epilogue compliant fics and basically I like when the settings are as close to canon as possible at first (and then the fic can evolve as the author wants of course). It doesn't mean I won't read AUs and other stuff ^^

Mpreg is probably what I like the least. Um dislike when Draco or Harry are extremely out of character. I very rarely read anything that would take place before HBP because Draco needs the character development that happened in that book and after. My favorite fics are ones that replace DH or 8th year I do love when their kids can be involved but epilogue compliant makes me sad because I don't like them to have to live that long without each other

I absolutely agree with you about HBP. Before then Draco is just a stuck up snob who thinks Voldemort is right, and it takes HBP for Draco to see things differently. Before then is just a little OOC for me. Though I make exceptions when I read fics that were written before HBP came out.

I became a Drarry fan long before HPB came out, but HPB is what cemented it and kept me interested in the relationship I think. It presented so many awesome scenarios and clearer character development that is pretty essential. I think it's only then that it became clear that Harry and Draco are just different sides of the same coin. They're both just young boys forced into situations they didn't necessarily choose simply because of who they were born to.

I'm not an mpreg fan either. It's just a little too unnatural for me. I only really read hp:ewe. I just feel like it's simpler without involving wives/ex-wives and kids, idk. My personal favorite is Hogwarts Eighth Year, since I love the Hogwarts setting and I love the idea of Harry and Draco seeing each other on a daily basis following the war and everything. It leaves a lot of room for development between them. Other than the epilogue, I do like things to be canon compliant for the most part. And I like characters to be in character, within reason.
My biggest pet peeve though, is Ginny bashing. I understand some Ginny bashing depending on the situation (like, insulting her from Draco's point of view, for example, since she's technically the 'enemy' in his eyes), but other than that I can't stand Ginny bashing, or when people make her out to be some stupid little girl (or something otherwise ooc). I love Drarry, but I also love Ginny's character. I just think it's unnecessary to trash her.

We're all fangirls (or boys or people) so calm down a second. Ginny is such a fantastic character (in the books at least), and there's no need to bash her for the sake of a ship! I will stop reading a fic, even if so far it's fantastic, if there's Ginny bashing other than the expected 'ugh a Weasley' from Draco or a bit of jealousy from him.

Seriously. Ginny is a fantastic character and doesn't deserve the hate she sometimes gets. She's strong, independent, and very smart, but she's often made out to be this vapid, manipulative, bitch and I hate, hate, hate it.

I love Ginny; I don't really like fics where she's just suddenly a bitch with no explanation. Same goes for Ron-bashing. :/
The moment Harry calls Draco 'Dray', I will close the fic even if I'm 100k words into it. It switches on something in my brain that makes me hate the whole fic on principle.
What I love in a fic:
Slow-burning relationships. I want to see why they don't hate each other any longer, the crossing of the love/hate line. I love eighth-year fics. I love a Harry who is coming down from the war and realizing that his whole purpose in life is now different. I love a Draco who's been in Azkaban.
And god, do I love Draco-torture. Beat the little hellion down and break his spirit. <3

Ugh, 'Dray' turns me off too. Immediately makes me lose interest.
I just realized another huge thing for me is Draco Snark. The Dracos I love are always snarky and witty as all hell. If he's too soft or lacks a good sense of sarcasm or just generally isn't snarky, I'm geeeeenerally not going to stay interested. Almost an essential for me haha. Gimme all the snark. :3

What I love in Drarry is their love/hate relationship so if they're not fighting or at least bickering, I don't really enjoy it, especially when they're still teenagers. And honestly, fights turning into making out sessions are a lot of fun when there's a reason behind it. It's different when it's post-hogwarts and adults though, I can understand that they grew up and went past their rivalries.
The only time I saw Harry call Draco "Dray" was in a fic where Harry is turned back into a toddler so it didn't bother me that much, but I can understand why people don't like it.
Edit : I really hate Ginny bashing too, she's such a strong character and I really admire her !

I also generally dislike Ginny bashing, mpreg, and Dracos that are too slick/too competent/not snarky enough. That's why I love it when a fic can realistically keep them in character and have them be together and work with their snarkiness because it shows dedication and insight from the author and that makes it feel so much like the books I'm a fan of post-Hogwarts fics, not exactly epilogue compliant but maybe 2-5 years after the war. I really love fics in which Draco is a Healer or somehow gives back to the wizarding people in some way, and I also really love fics where Draco already knows he's gay. I'm not really sure why, but those fics make me really happy. That's why I love Reparations Also, I don't really like when they go from calling each other "Malfoy" and "Potter" to their first names very easily, or when it's a *big deal*. I like a sort of slow, natural progression, but of course, that usually means pretty long fics, and I also love me some one-shots where they're already together and it's a birthday/holiday or something

I love when they surprise each other with wit and humour, like the moment the other realise that "shit he's actually pretty funny" but as you guys point out it's really important that it's in character
